Revellers have flocked to Rio carnival as the annual festival goes ahead despite the looming threat of the Zika virus currently gripping South America.
Partygoers flashed the flesh during last night's parade which saw women in glittering bikinis, plenty of feathers and huge smiles.
Floats playing homage to historical races including the Ancient Egyptians and Native Americans lined the streets.
And the ceremonial King Momo message was of peace and love as he opened the lavish festival on Friday.
He said: "With great happiness, brotherly love and peace, I declare the best carnival on Earth open - our carnival in the marvelous city."
The festivities come despite the thousands of reported cases of the Zika virus in the country.
